I’m glad this strip today seems to have lowered the temp on Spud’s anguish, at least a little bit. After all, he is still talking and not yet bursting into frightened tears, as I have seen grade-school children really do. For yesterday’s installment reminded me of a comment made by the leading lady character Georgia, in Charlie Chaplin’s 1925 film “The Gold Rush.” When Georgia saw the Little Tramp’s heartfelt, elaborate preparations for the New Year’s Eve dinner that she and her friends had promised to come to, but had stood him up instead, she said, “The joke has gone too far.”
I’d give Wallace a 10 also. Spud is just eating his sandwich. He’ll jump when he’s good and ready. However, they’re not setting any real, records for evacuating that bus though…..

And thus followed the best round of double-dutch ever seen.
But nobody saw it because they were too busy ogling the bus evacuation drill that got held up by a kid having a panic attack.

In the last panel that one on the left looks elderly. I’m new here; is she a grandparent? Parent? Teacher? .. etc.. ?
