Is that because Mittens just ate the food in the middle and left it around the edges? My cats do that all the time. They sit and stare at the dish like it’s empty but there’s a ring of food.
I feed a cat named “Tank”. I thought, at first, it had some kind of military significance. I eventually figured out it was because he had to fill up his “tank” every few hours, which is why he mooches all over the neighborhood. However, he’s a beautiful marmalade tabby and has impeccable manners.

So Mitty, what’s worse – a sinkhole in the middle of your food dish or evil squirrels?

To paraphrase that old Aka Seltzer commercial:
“He can’t believe he ate the HOLE dish!”
