For all New Readers To Ten Cats, firstly welcome to the strip, and for all existing readers who sometimes struggle to identify whoâs who in the comic, I put together a panel, from a GH original, with all their names on. Also for reference, Lily, Jellybean, and Bluebell, are the girls (Donât upset Lily, youâll regret it!).

Fastnacht Day. With deep roots in Germany, Fastnacht Day is a pre-Lenten celebration that takes place the day before Ash Wednesday.Fastnacht means âfastâ and ânightâ in German. In Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, Fastnacht represents an entire season of festivities leading up to Shrove Tuesday. The traditions are rooted in the same pre-Lenten celebrations that have taken place for centuries. Those fasting for Lent used up the rich foods they would be giving up in a feast.
Paczki Day The sweet holiday of Paczki Day takes place the day before Ash Wednesday. The Polish tradition of indulging in fried dough filled with jams, custards or other sweet surprises dates back to the Middle Ages.A PUNCH-kee or POONCH-key or POOCH-key is traditionally a round Polish pastry filled with fruit and coated in sugar. Those who would be fasting during Lent needed to empty the pantry; this Polish pastry was an ideal way to use up what was in the larder. More modern versions fill the paczki with custard or cream and even cover the outside with a glaze and sprinkles. The day is also full of music and entertainment much like Fat Tuesday and borrows many traditions from the French.
I forgot to mention yesterday about something we got in our deliveries on Sunday night. Shipping delays â ugh, Iâm so sick of shipping delays! The electronics department is s till getting Black Friday merchandise. But on Sunday, the seasonal department got some Halloween stuff. Luckily, just one box. It was 3 inflatable Halloween goblins. Regularly priced at $28.88, they were reduced to $3 and were sold out in under 2 hours.
In further Walmart news, I think I set a record on Sunday. I have a pedometer app on my phone and according to that app, I walked more than 20,000 steps (8.3 miles) in the store. Most of that was looking for merchandise for the customers. Until this blasted remodel is over, even we associates canât find things the customers are looking for. A large percentage of stuff is in some temporary location while the remodel people are working to move stuff to new final locations. One day, I found microwaves in a certain aisle, but the next day, that spot was empty and the microwaves were someplace else. A day or two after that, they were moved again to another location. And even that location is a temporary one. The remodel people are NOT our friends. Theyâre making our job very difficult. Theyâre supposed to be done in 3 weeks, but at the rate theyâre going weâre doubtful that will happen. When they finished with our store, theyâre supposed to do the same to the nearby Super Walmart.
Aw, poor Oliver. Maybe the snowman migrated north to seek a colder climate. (Maybe not.) On another note, saw a robin and four juncos while out walking today.
