I think she did it to herself. She was playing a game where she turned into a planet. A planet is essentially a giant rock after all.

Phoebe’s got a point — I’m very curious to learn what happened. Assuming that the statue really is Marigold, I wonder what turned her to stone?

It’s quite possible that Marigold either comissioned or created the statue as part of the game.
