Jalapenos are relatively mild as peppers go, only rating between 2,500–10,000 on the Scoville “spicy” scale, whereas Carolina Reapers rate 1,500,000–2,500,000 and Pepper X is 2,693,000!
Kids (and many adults) will do some stupid things on a dare and to get attention. You can find all sorts of videos online of people attempting to eat one of the more hot varieties, which usually end up in disaster — copious weeping, tears, vomiting — all for their brief moment of viral attention.
Personally, I don’t really like the taste of any pepper, although I will eat mild salsa with chips.
