Ironic, isn’t it, that Big Oil saved the whales?

I just watched a Western with a flabbergastingly bad logic error. Some whites were being attacked by Indians, the main attack coming from the front. Another, smaller group of Indians had snuck up and then started yelling and running at them from the rear. Several whites, still holding their loaded guns, ran at the ambush and started using their loaded guns as clubs!

I have long said, if whales & dolphins ever teach us to speak, we’re going to have a lot of explaining to do.

Star Trek – the real Star Trek, anyway – was, at its core, a propaganda piece about the US (UFP) & USSR (Klingons). In the last panel, Rick absolutely nailed the “thinking” behind the Cold War – and every empire vs. empire struggle before that one, as well.

As I recall, the idea was more that the probe had been by Earth before, far enough back that whales were the most advanced life form. On checking in quite a while later, it found the advanced earth dwellers instead of whales and decided to repay genocide with genocide. Restoring the whales shut off the attack.

It’s odd that in the 24th century they didn’t have recordings of whale songs to play to the aliens or that the most efficient solution wasn’t to bring recordings back instead of massive whales.

I always wondered in that movie what the two wales were supposed to do as the only two of their kind. Have a pup and then what? start inbreeding I suppose and die off in a few generations and the whale aliens come back. That is the problem with Noah’s ark as well.
