Slugs! Blick! And double blick! The best way to get rid of slugs is the get ducks. Our last duck died around 1995, and we still don’t have any, even though our neighbors do. Slugs are not great travelers.
When I was a littley we had several large forsythias in our yard, as well as yew shrubs and mature spruce trees with branches that swept to the ground, which all provided lovely spaces under their branches for forts, dens, and playhouses. I always raked underneath them, however, because as much as I loved the hidey-holes, I HATED the creepy-crawlies!
