When my daughter was in day care years ago, sometimes when I would drop her off other kids there would randomly walk up to me to show off their toys or just say something silly. She would then go to this child and say “no, that’s MY father, you can’t talk to him!” Yeah, I think she had a bit of a jealousy complex.

Sort of like in the old days when a girl wanted to meet a boy but couldn’t make the first move, so she’d drop her fan and let him pick it up for her…

I guess the alternative reaction would be for the potential friend to hang on to the stuffed toy.

April, the girl learns fast. Drop something of yours on the floor, and the boy with the ponytail will pick it up for you! What a gentleman!

Perfect! To bad adult humans don’t retain children’s demeanor

Both my nieces were like this at two – just walked up to someone their size and said, ’Let’s play and be friends!’ Love it.

Oh. So that’s how you do it. I always thought the dropper didn’t want it anymore, so I just pick it up and keep it. Not a lot of friends, me.

So it begins: When April dropped her teddy bear and Becky picked it up and then became friends.
