I have known kids do things just to express independence and to do things that they think will be fun even though it displeases their parents but never knew a child who did something just to ruin their parents’ day.

If this was real life, and I had kids like this, and as seen in the strip, the only punishment is time out. It would be time to start using the old yard stick, flimsy lumber yard one, not the heavy duty school one.
