“Recently” could mean any time that day as opposed to the day before. “Washed” could mean turning on the water, then running their hands under it for one second.
To close any loopholes, Wanda probably should have asked if they washed them for at least 20 seconds using warm water and soap in the time since they were called to supper just now.
