I had a Professor in college (Michigan, Electrical Engineering). McMahon.
He absolutely HATED grading papers…so after the 3rd hourly exam was handed back, and we went over the problems, he said “give me 10 minutes, then my office is open for negotiations”. The 10 minutes was for him to go grab a beer and bring it back to his office (Colt 45, in a bottle, wrapped in brown paper bag).
“Negotiations” was you actively negotiated your grade, and he would offer a higher grade if you chose to NOT take the final. “You’re a solid B, but I”ll give you a B+ if you skip the final…but if you do take the final, you need an 86 to achieve that same B+".
unless you were in really bad shape, it was always best to take the deal.
can y’all just imagine how bad it is at some of these very long winded trials, like the Watergate trial? How Judge Sirica didnt become paralyzed with boredom surprises me

I dunno, a fraud case seems appropriate for that judge!
