When I was a child, suddenly and without apparent reason, I started to be afraid of dead people (at night). I remember that my sweet aunt told me: “Don’t be. If someone grabs you and hurts you, they are alive, you can believe that”. It worked and I remember feeling relief and starting to sleep well again. Fortunately, I didn’t think at all about how many alive people I was going to cross path with in my life. :-)

Except that adult monsters are real.

Great. Another kid that will grow up to be a complete mess of an adult.

…and then you’ll get old and die. Good night, kitten, sweet dreams.

In the early teens the monsters come out from under the bed and move inside you. And they stay there until you die.

My wife was telling me about pregnancy nightmares and that they are a normal thing.

Better some imaginary monster under the bed than a real one climbing in under the covers with him.
