When I first moved to Oregon I lived in a rural area, got called for jury duty four times in four years, including a Grand Jury in Portland (just close enough that I won’t have qualified for hotel payments). Only went in once, though and didn’t get selected for the trial. Moved just south of Portland, nothing for over a decade. Ditto, Salem.
I got summoned. I showed up with 80 or so people. They called numbers of all but 12. I didn’t get picked. Then they asked those if anyone had a reason they couldn’t serve. They excused a few and picked 5 more from the 12 of us left. Same thing, then they picked 1 mpre. I was one of 6 out of the 80+ that didn’t get picked. The clerk asked to meet with us and she said “You can still VOLUNTEER for jury duty if you want.” We didn’t. So I was excused for 6 years. As a retired cop, I’d probably get recused from any criminal cases anyway.

Serving on a jury can be an awesome experience. No need for sympathy- depending on the trial.

Last trip for jury dut—got there and was told all court sessions were cancelled for the week so all I got was a check for $16.00.

I went 62 years before I was sent a jury duty notice. I ended up the jury foreman on a Murder 1 trial.
