I think they were surpressing laughter. That’s what my cat was doing when a little “princess cat” was pushed by in a pram. It wasn’t just that the princess was meowing; she was also waving. :)
My father had a pair of hunting dogs named Lenny and Squiggy when I was very young. I was shocked to learn in my teen years that the pairing of names had meaning to anyone outside our family.
