A customer asked me to look in the dry grocery backroom for an item not currently in the ad. It was a bad time when the order writer filled up the backroom. Working the backstock was as if before the containers at the end of Raider of the Lost Ark (but with no aisles). I took the customer into the backroom and I asked, “Where do you suggest I start?” He turned and left without saying a thing. I could have been fired.
I worked at a warehouse club int the freezer/cooler section and it was a few minutes before closing. A guy came in asking if we had pretzels as the shelf was empty. We did and I knew it but they were on the bottom of a pallet. I told him we were sold out. He points into the freezer to the pallet with the pretzels and says “I can see them right there”. I told him sorry I was told we were out. I then had to get a forklift, drop the pallet, completely unstack it, give him a box of pretzels, and the reverse the whole process. I was not a happy employee.
In the ‘60s I worked in my dad’s store. I had long hair and a large mustache. When I was working at the checkstand people often asked me, “Do you work here?” One evening I got fed up and replied, “No, this is a robbery. Stay calm and nothing will happen to you.” Fortunately the woman had a sense of humor. I realized that, as fun as it was to say it, it was not a good idea.

I bet she doesn’t know what that is even – just give her mayo

We do have a lot of product in the back, its more of the stuff you see where the shelves are full
If the shelf is empty for more than one day, it’s probably not only not in the back but the warehouse is out too
Supply chain is the current best excuse, but its just retail
The next load I order where everything I ordered comes in, would be the first one in over 20 years

As the stock boy at a five & ten store, I’d occasionally be sent to basement for holiday decorations customers wanted out of season.

Say “Yes!” go to the stock room & Return 20 minutes later, repeat often as necessary. (´∀`)ʱªʱªʱª
