A granddaughter went nuts about a female rock star, repeating over and over how pretty she was. I suggested she try to find a non-publicity photo of the singer, when she had not been primped for show by a battalion of make-up artists. Let her see the ‘real’ person [if one ever does when show people are involved]. She, an intelligent student, refused on the grounds I was just making up stuff because I didn’t like the music. I had never heard the music to recognize it or the singer, but also realized granddaughter was so deeply into the glitz and glitter, she was unable to see the reality. Not the last time that happened.
