When my son was in high school (graduated about 7 years ago), he discovered my old manual typewriter (my mom’s from the 50s). It so fascinated him that he wanted to write a paper for school on it. Took so long with so many mistakes he had to correct that he gave up and whipped it out on his computer. There is a reason I quite using that thing.
Awhile back, I mentioned to my nephews that Captain America was my favourite superhero comic book. They were stunned.. “You have a favorite superhero?!” LOL!
Many years ago my son was visiting from his mom’s place and helping me clean up the basement. We came across my old K&E Slide Rule. He said “Wow! I’ve seen pictures of these, but never thought to see one in real life.” I threw a pillow at him.
My husband and I still get a good deal of paper mail – a number of magazines, bills, greeting cards, and requests for donations. I’m not sure that the local recycling group really appreciates the amount of paper we give them regularly, but…
Time for YouTube vid demonstrating all the vintage methods of opening a real envelope. Not a clickable icon. Me-Relearning to tear the narrow side open and blow into it to get your fingers in. Check against the window light to be sure the letter is clear first.
1. You can’t play Leroy Anderson’s “The Typewriter” with a computer.2. I learned to type on my parents’ Underwood. For some reason, the “a” key needed to be pressed harder than the other keys. When I transitioned to an IBM Selectric and then to word processor/computer, I still hit the “a” harder. Had a lot of “aaaa” errors. But my pinkie finger on my left hand was pretty strong!
