Some teachers/classes/programs (may) require students to turn in all assignments (even those they will no longer get credit/points for) in order to get credit for the whole class. Until everything is turned in, the class is incomplete.
There is no subject on Earth so far removed from running that we can’t somehow or other squeeze a tortured running reference out of it.
