When was the last time someone talking about the hard work and sacrifices needed was on the ballot? The last person I voted for who’d spelled out a realistic plan was John Anderson in 1980; he got a whopping 6.6% of the vote (Reagan won that election).
Truth would help sort out some of the angles, but the subjects of the truth would have to be relevant to be significant. Mostly the rhetoric is for sensationalism to get votes, not relevant to what would even be possible if the particular candidate were elected. Past record of performance is about all we have to work with.
