Apparently, there is such a thing as a house spider, that requires human habitations for its own habitation.

I’m sorry I don’t negotiate with spiders if they enter my domicile it’s instant death for them.

I often wonder about that too. There’s not a lot of bug traffic in the house, so how do spiders survive? I usually usher them outside because there are lots of bugs there. Now ants on the other hand, we are locked in a life and death struggle daily.

I have a low tolerance level for non indigenous crawly (and winged) creatures in my space. My instinct is to swat or splat it depending on the insect, although in my head I instantly feel bad as I realize I could have as easily captured it and let it free outside. Instinct over preservation at it’s finest.

Why all the hate for spiders? They eat BUGS!!! They eat the creatures that spread disease and CREEP ME OUT!!!

I don’t make friends with them (usually), but they are wonderful housemates, and God’s creatures, too.

For several years, in my mom’s old house, I had a black widow that lived by the kitchen sink. The window didn’t close all the way, and we didn’t have the money to fix it. That little spider (maybe an inch, inch and a half, full grown) helped keep the insect population down in the kitchen quite a bit, and was entertaining, too. My brother had to move in with us, you see, and he was afraid of spiders. Yes, I’m evil.

When I was about 17, I was staying at my grandma’s house (in South Carolina) and was getting ready for bed, when I heard a skittering sound coming from the kitchen. There, on the kitchen floor, I saw a HUGE HONKING MUTANT WHITE SPIDER!! I mean, that thing was BIG! Now I am not afraid of spiders but, this one made me pause! But, I carefully tipped toed around it and grabbed a jumbo plastic cup, and a thick post card. I dropped the cup over the spider, then slipped the postcard under the cup, and threw everything out the back door! Pretty sure that spider was big enough to eat lizards!

The exception that I make to picking up house spiders is the large hairy black ones and black widows.

I like spiders. I have this really neat plastic cup with a magnifying glass in it that I use to catch spiders (and other things) in. I examine them for a bit, then put them outside somewhere. I do that with most bugs. Now cockroaches, I draw the line there. They get doused with bug spray! I don’t see them in my house often, fortunately. I have been known the wash them into the garbage disposal and turn it on.

You guys, I have gotten soft in my 40s and one day I saw a spider by my office window and didn’t want Dan to kill it (usually I would), and he scooped it outside – but had to remove our blinds and carry them outside to do so BECAUSE IT WAS INSIDE THE TOP PART AND WOULDN’T LET HIM SCOOP IT. So that was really sweet, and it lived another day. :) (If that doesn’t make sense, I apologize – but long story short, Dan took special pains to indulge me. Which is probably the summation of this comic strip. Haha.)
