No a days, you can’t fix your cars due to electronics involved. If you’re a mechanic and know cars, you’ll be able to fix it yourself. Not like the old days.
Had quite an audience one winter day when my 1951 Hillman Minx convertible’s starter quit, & the foreign car service I used said it would take a week to get a new one. It was a cold Kansas City winter day. Fortunately the Hillman came with a hand crank. Raised the hood so I could tweak the Carburetor when it seemed to start. Cranked it several times & the 4 cylinder engine stirred to life.. then held the throttle part on the carburetor until the motor set in a high idle. Nobody had ever seen someone crank a car to start it. The crown watching cheered!
Car companies DID invalidate your warrantee if you made any changes (other than appearance add-ons) up to late 1980’s. I thought it still worked that way?

Cosmo: Don’t start that again.

He’s not new. He would be an “old starter”.
He could be a “different starter”, but not a “new starter”.

Just happened to me last week. Fortunately, it was a manual, so my wife was the starter. She’s stronger than she looks.

Eventually, car manufacturers will follow the lead of John Deere and void warranties if people work on their own cars.

With Cosmo and his ’59 DeSoto, what signals that they have a new starter?
