Taking it peck by peck

Will he get an annual pay raise??

Where safe, I leave dead trees up for the woodpeckers. They are a blast to watch, especially the Pileated.

For the past year, a road crew has been enjoying job security across two long blocks of a formerly well-traveled street I would be using regularly.

Accentuating the positive, huh, Mr. Woodpecker?

When I had some trees removed, I had them leave a 20 ft stump in the backyard. I’m hoping a woodpecker or two will take up residence, but so far all they do is eat the suet I’ve put out.

Tumble outta bed and I stumble to the kitchen

Pour myself a cup of ambition

Yawn and stretch and try to come to life

Jump in the shower and the blood starts pumpin’

Out on the street the traffic starts jumpin’With folks like me on the job from 9 to 5

Workin’ 9 to 5, what a way to make a livin’

They just use your mind and they never give you credit

9 to 5, for service and devotion

You would think that I would deserve a fat promotion

Want to move ahead but the boss won’t seem to let me

I swear sometimes that man is out to get me!

They let you dream just to watch ’em shatter

You’re just a step on the boss-man’s ladder

But you got dreams he’ll never take away

You’re in the same boat with a lotta your friends

Waitin’ for the day your ship’ll come in

An’ the tide’s gonna turn and it’s all gonna roll your way

I have to be careful with my comments with these woodpecker comics.

It looks to me like he’s already made his hole.

Don’t knock it (just peck away). Especially these days….

Porter Drive in Arlington National Cemetery has had a detour for about the past 2 1/2 years at least. It’s about 50’ long. I have to remember that it’s there because that’s the road I usually drive on to visit my Mother, Father, and Brother. I don’t know what they’re doing, but it looks the same every time I go there.
