I am not much of a fan of modern baseball anymore. Every year, I like it less and less.

Considering some of the defense I’ve seen lately, it wouldn’t matter. A Giants fan.

Baseball fundamentals have gone the way of the Dodo bird/Krakatoa. It’s all about launch angle, bat speed, exit velocity. Hitters are too stubborn to try to go the other way when the shift is on. Yes, the pitcher does try to throw inside, thus forcing the batter to hit the ball into the shift, but try pulling the hands in and going the other way. Even if you’re not successful, it at least lets the other team know your intentions. It’s so frustrating with the new extra innings rule where the leadoff batter is automatically placed on second base and, time after time, they fail to advance him the third. It’s called BASEball for a reason. I keep hearing the old advertisement about “chicks dig the long ball.”

Had to look this one up, but I was proven correct by my assumption: Mark Grace never made the Hall of Fame.

So, if you wanna know why batters “swing for the fences” all the time, it’s because HRs get you the Hall of Fame career, not being an efficient hitter who can get on base a lot.
