I just love it when cartoon writers have enough courage to take their characters on a summer vacatlion. The Family Circus went to New York, Hi and Lois just returned from Maine. Even Snuffy Smith, Loweezy, Tater, Jughead and Old Bullet made a trip to the big city – at least – a city bigger than Hoot N Holler! A few years ago, Claire and her boyfriend spent a couple of weeks at a cabin in the woods – plus they also went to Europe. Betty and her husband made a tour of Italy a few years ago. Even Hagar the Horrible just treated his wife to a holiday in Italy! Andy Capp and Flo managed to spend some time every year at the seashore. Several years ago, Fritzi and Phil were counselors at a summer camp, while Nancy and Sluggo enjoyed fun camp activities, like fishing and going on canoe rides! Cathy always seems to have a great time when she heads to the beach to enjoy the sun – but only AFTER she visits the local clothing Emporium to pick out all the gear she needs to stay OUT OF THE SUN! CHARLIE BROWN AND Crew seem to almost always have some summer camp stories to tell – one year, Charlie even had an opportunity to watch a baseball game being coached by his favorite baseball player! Red and Rover’s summertime adventures are sort of like watching a summer-time dream come true. In times past, even the Bumsteads, Lockhorns and Pluggers have loaded up the tent and headed out for camping trips. But none can compare to the truly unique adventures which Fred’s family manages to have every year. What a swll way to end an summer full of interesting adventures!
