On my first trip to Mexico, my experience talking to a stranger on the street went like this:
“Donde esta el mercado?” (Where is the market?)
“Quales mercado?” (Which market?)
I was stuck. In my Spanish courses, there had always been only the one market.
He finally said (In English) “Just what is it you are trying to say, man?”
