When I was a kid back in the late 70’s, teenager in the 80’s, standard list was pretty much, pencils, pens, paper, folders. Kids got the trappers to keep the folders in. My mother bought, at least, a box of the old pee chee folders and that’s what we used. If I wanted any other kind of folder, I would have to buy it out of my pocket. Our teachers (both private and public) didn’t demand certain colors of folders/3 ring binders. That to me is just unnecessary control.

When I went to school, all we bought was pencils and pee chee folders. Made our book covers out of grocery bags.

I am not a teacher but a friend is and she assigns each of her Math classes a different color folder. It makes it easier to keep track of each group.

It would be prudent not to.

Helps when the little local store knows the needs and the number of students for the coming year.
