Yesterday, Susan1000 reminded us that Red had said that he’d be “dragged kicking and screaming to the school bus” and said that she saw the school bus but no kicking or screaming. I replied that Red sometimes sounds as rebellious as Calvin but doesn’t actually act as rebellious. I have just seen that Susan1000 replied “I’m afraid you misunderstood. It was RED who said he’d be dragged kicking and screaming to the school bus.” I didn’t misunderstand. My point was that Calvin sounds rebellious and usually puts his words into actions whereas Red often sounds more of a rebel than he really is.
I’m glad that you enjoy this strip almost as much as Calvin and Hobbes, Susan. As I’ve said before, you will probably come to dislike Red’s bullying older brother Martin more than you dislike Red’s Dad.
On Saturday, someone mentioned The Time Tunnel in response to a reference in the strip to Red making a time machine. I mentioned that I had discovered that series earlier this year and had watched some of the later episodes. I have now caught another repeat of the series as I watched an episode last night. It was episode 3 of the series so I should be able to see most of the series this time.
I was born in December 1966 and The Time Tunnel was originally shown in 1967. Red might have watched the series although it was cancelled due to poor ratings. I only discovered it earlier this year and it reminds me of Quantum Leap although that series limited time travel to the hero’s own lifetime.
As I mentioned yesterday, he referred to The Fugitive as still being on the air and the One-Armed Man not having been caught in one of last year’s story arcs which shows that that story arc was set in 1967 at the latest. In another of last year’s story arcs, he used the phrase “Houston, we have a problem,” which shows that that story arc was set in 1970 at the earliest.
When I was in junior high I had waist-length hair (still do). One day someone put a huge wad of gum in my hair right at the base of my neck. I was devastated because I thought I would have to have my hair cut. When I got home my grandmother sat me down, took an ice cube, and rubbed & rubbed until every speck of gum was out of my hair. Then I shampooed & conditioned my hair. When I entered the class where it happened the next day I could tell who did it because of the look of shock on her face.

Red, you forget that teachers never stay put in the front of the room; they wander around making sure the students are working on their assignments.
And if they see “dreaming and doodling”, it’s detention!!

The best thing about being back in school is Rover waiting to welcome Red back home!

If called on, don’t complain that you can’t see…you’ll end up with glasses or in the front seat or both.

Once you raise your hand too much, they stop calling on you.

I started a few classes like that, but somehow ended up in the front row for some odd reason or other.
