Could just be a NYC thing: my husband and his sister still call his mother “mommy” and called their dad, “daddy” while he was still alive. All from Queens in NYC and yes, I found it weird at first.
Having my almost 70 y/o husband calling his mother “mommy” is the least of my issues with him. Even if she is 93.
