Wait, we’ve experienced something that killed 1,084,893 ( https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/ ) Americans over the last three years and now we should just shrug it off, rub dirt on it and take a lap, what?
The explanation is an easy one: it’s merely an instance of the distinction between potency and act. Pre-COVID derangement was always there as a real, but submerged, and erroneous opinion. Hence the potency. The advent of COVID enabled said to become manifest. Hence the actualization of the potency. The reason why this happened is that the opinion was/is held mainly in ignorant people — denoting both a failure of the educational system and the ascendancy of opinion over knowledge. As regards stupid people, you can’t educate them, but you can still work them with erroneous opinions.
If Trump had simply appointed someone expert in medical messaging (he had at least one available) instead of the empty suit Pence to be in charge of the fight against Covid, there would have been a lot less derangement. Sorry, GentlemanBill, this is a perfect example of Trump using a tragedy to divide Americans. Instead of rallying people to do everything they could to stop this thing in its tracks he made it seem like a choice we had, and half a million people died needlessly. All this while spending billions on a vaccine and crowing about it. If he had told people unequivocally that they should get it there might not have been any call for “mandates.”

You could start with the dismantling of the pandemic response structure that was in place before Trump took office.
Follow it up with the trashing of the pandemic play book that was attempted to be passed on by the previous administration.
.
Saved some money to finance tax cuts for the rich, though.

How is it “post-Covid” when Covid is still happening? I ought to know. I just had it.
