The writer knows people have short attention spans so we only get about 2-3 strips of a story before we are on to something else. So far we have revisited the Gil vs. Martinez storyline and now the volleyball/grandma’s dying storyline. Just think of reading this strip being like watching CNN or ESPN. Not much depth but just the headlines so you kind of know what is going on.
So, trying to be objective at the writers request. @henrybarajas
1. The coaching rivalry with the obnoxious coach who turns out to be a great family man is a great story.
2. The LGBTQ story is interesting but I think most long time readers are struggling with the fact that Gil suddenly has an LGBTQ daughter which has never been the case. Adding in the LGBTQ+ romance is just harder to swallow because the character has been previously developed for 30 years.
3. Barajas needs help with the sports stories. He clearly doesn’t know anything about football. This may improve in other seasons. It is disappointing that he doesn’t make a call to a sports friend and simply ask for a tip. If he had replaced “Thorp Special” with “Omaha” it would have been actually funny.
All righty now. After a day of hurling insults and a$$es getting chafed, everyone feel better? Hank has commented this story line is for a year and Meemaw Debbie is targeted to be in the Thorp universe to March. Everyone lighten up. Life is short. P1- Meemaw’s one word comment about Gil is what Snark Nation has known for years. Now if she calls Kaz Coach Meat, what a knee slapper that would be.
So Mimi is a coach after all (in spite of what she seemed to be saying on the golf course), but she just took off and dumped the job in Gil’s lap? What did the “principle” have to say about that?
There were no deadbeats at West Clermont last night as Milford took a 27-26 win on the road. Hope burns bright as the Eagles clinch at least a share of third in the Valley (aka Eastern Cincinnati Conference) and clinch a top eight playoff seed and week eleven home game.
Yes, it WAS a great strip. For poops and giggles I went back to one of my favorite storylines —-True Standish attends Milford . Started August, 2014 and ended mid-December; 4 1/2 months of non-stop attention to one storyline. Could not wait to read the next day’s strip. I haven’t had that anticipation in a long, long time.
I totally misread P1 and thought Mimi said, “Are you ready to be our assistant coach, Mia?”, and was thinking, who is Mia who’s in a wheelchair? And she’s going to coach? And what happened to the girl who was coaching? And speaking of what happened, what really happened in this strip? Well, check out Mopped Up Thorp to find out.
OMG!!!!!!! The writer is on this page!!!! Everybody be on their best behavior!!!!! Mr. Barajas, I take back that comment about Gil being no better able to coach than Speedy Gonzales. Lo siento mucho. Me gusto su escribiendo para el periodico!!!! T. Drew Hardin

Why all the vitriol for Gil? He was doing his job as a coach and mentor and then the woke mob showed up and Milford gets turned upside down.

P-1: Meemaw gives today’s Sherlock cue: Ernie K. Doe singing “Mother in Law”.
P-2: “I don’t always drink beer, but when I do”
P-3: Yes dear, thanks for that funny little vibrating toy you left me.

I can’t believe that Barajas misspelled Meemaw’s name. It’s “Debi!”
