Because of Bonds, Sosa, and McGwire, Judge didn’t have the level of attention, including the media circus, around him that the others had. That kind of thing is very distracting and tiring — a disadvantage he didn’t have. When he exceeds this year’s total by 12, he will have the single season HR record. Until then, he will have to content himself with the AL record.
Asterisk for Judge, or anybody else moving forward; MLB stupid decision to ban the shift. Some stat heads will have to figure out HRNS (home runs no shift adjustment)
Babe Ruth fun fact: Ruth hit 714 MLB regular season HRs, but only one as a minor leaguer. His single HR wasn’t even hit in the US; Ruth hit it in Toronto when his Orioles team was playing the Maple Leafs.
Ruth hit 3 homers in a game in the 1926 World Series against the Cardinals, but he had a few embarrassing moments besides.
He made the last out in Game 7 with a “surprise” steal of second base that was no surprise.(In defense, before he got REALLY fat he was good for 7 to 10 steals a year).
Also,Cardinals shortstop Tommy Thevenow(very weak hitter)got an inside t he park h ome run when the ball got lodged in a crawl space under the right field stands and Ruth didn’t see where it was. He’s yelling “Where’s the(censored) ball?”—-since the game was played in St.Louis, good luck getting an answer.

Jose Canseco Toronto Sky Dome was longest?

Wasn’t Ruth’s ball in an exhibition game? I always though Mantle’s Griffith Stadium HR was the official longest?

Nice drawings of Ruth (except for that one of Judge) in the background…

Now all Aaron has to do is beat Bambino’s record.

Was measuring bad/different in 1921 or is that a reference to “mistakes” in measurement?

I think Ruth still has both the single season and career records for a leftie.

The “longest home run” was hit by Ruth in an exhibition game. There were train tracks running behind the ballpark.
Ruth hit one out of the park t hat landed in a passing open freight car and the train kept on going.Hence the “longest” home run

How did they measure the HR distance back then? With a tape measure?

I believe Judge is player number 67 to break one of over 220 Babe Ruth records. Leaving the Bambino with only about 100 standing.

Was not a foot still 12 inches in 1921?
