I wore one as a cop so nobody could grab it and pull you by it. Also real easy to put on!
In the ‘50s and ’60s, my dad wore clip-on ties with his suits. Reason: job was in a rough area of Los Angeles. He didn’t want to give any bad boys the advantage of using his ties as a weapon or handle.
