My daughters have always brought home stellar report cards. My husband started a joke with their first of “scaring” them, saying in a disapproving voice, “I can’t believe this report card!” followed by a sincere congratulations. The joke has evolved so that now the girls (usually the younger one) will say, “Here’s my report card; should I get the yardstick?” (to beat her with…and no, neither of us has EVER beaten our children with ANYTHING).
When I was in high school, a normal report card was 4 A’s and one C. My dad was always angry about it, but he didn’t know how much I hated social-studies-type classes. C was good enough for me.
