My family had a classic WWII garden in the 1950’s, corn, potatoes, tomatoes, bell peppers, peas, lettuce, beans, pop corn, cucumbers, zucchini, and one year mom bought ten pounds of seed peanuts so I spent two falls roasting peanuts in the oven. During the year of the zucchini she set out ten plants so I clandestinely delivered grocery bags of zucchini to our neighbors.

Just leave it alone. Water and trim. See how it goes.Unless you have a bunch of one year plants. Plant for distance. not short term.

“But now it’s just a yard.”
It’s old-fashioned. A modern English garden would be a meter.

Actually, it is a garden, by definition. A ‘yard’ is a large open area…

And the English shudder when you call the garden a “yard.” Yard to them means an industrial acreage, like a car salvage yard.

Why can weeds grow without tending yet the plants humans like need so much care?
