As a kid, I was usually disappointed with those “prizes”. As an adult, the “prizes” continued to disappoint. So……….I figure cereals furnish an important learning experience for innocent children who might, otherwise, grow up expecting something for nothing.
Ah – those were the days. My brother and I got so competitive about shoving our hands into newly opened boxes of cereal in search of the prize that Mom had to institute a new rule: we could NOT reach into a box. The prize had to fall into our bowl and whomever experienced that got to keep it. We would nervously and voraciously consume an entire box, hoping to be rewarded.
LOL!! Looks so familiar ….we used to stick our hands in the box til we got to the bottom, to get the stupid toy! At the time it was exciting, though. ☺️
I still remember the time an Archie’s record was on the outside of the Honeycomb box. My dad played it twice on his record player and then threw it away, because he hates me. Actually, it may because the plastic layer on the “record” is so thin it could only be played twice. I think the song was “Jingle Jangle.”
When I was a kid in the very early 60’s a box of cereal came with an offer on the back where you could send in for some little toy cars. I made my mom pour out the whole box into a bowl to make sure they weren’t INSIDE the box. Who cares!

This strip makes me nostalgic for the days when cereals touted “sugar” in their names- Sugar Smacks, and Sugar Pops, and Sugar Frosted Flakes.

Come to the Honeycomb Hideout. Boy they knew how to sell cereal in the 70’s. Sugar bear, Captain Crunch. Fruit Loops. Lol

Is it true some U.S. cereals cannot be sold to the public in some countries in Europe?

It looks like Rover has found some prizes, too!

I always stuck my hand down the box and fished out the prize before pouring the first bowl. Unless one of my siblings had beaten me to it.
