Well it certainly doesnât shine like the North Star, but it is a fitting Otterloop âCharlie Brown Christmas Treeâ style display, and warms my heart just the same. Thanks Richard!
Anyone whoâs seen Natâl Lampoon Christmas movie knows the downside to lights. We have our own version here. We are slightly downhill from our backyard neighbors so their deck eaves are about level with our 2nd-floor bedroom windows. The previous owner had lined the eaves with VERY LARGE white globes which he delighted in using as he sat on his deck long into the night during the summer. He sold, moved away and, we were amused to note, took the globes with him. Fast forward through sale, rehab and resale of house, through the summer and to the Season of LIGHTS. Nice new neighbors. We watched as the grill went out onto the lawn, the deck swing was put up, pretty old-fashioned lights during Halloween. And then came the Season of LIGHTS. Woke up one night to a glow on the bedroom wall opposite the windows. Looked out and, sure ânuff, those nice people had installed Christmas lights on their eaves. Large. White. Globe. Christmas lights. Which they delight to leave on. All. Night. To paraphrase what Butch said to Sundance, âWhat IS it with that house?â

Yes, Petey can go in now and wait for Santa, who probably will never know that little faintly lit house is there.
