Trees can be very pricy, and I’ve considered putting a live one in a pot and reusing it each year. However, a local store sells very nice trees at incredibly reasonable prices. Got a 5’ tree (we’re in an apartment, so big doesn’t work for us) for $20.00. Literally, $19.99.
I love love love Charlie Brown’s Christmas, but when I looked for a fresh tree I always looked for the prettiest. It is a wonderful metaphor but when it comes to my Christmas trees, I want the best for my buck.
The tragedy, of course, is that Charlie Brown’s tree (like Nate’s) could have been a lush, stately tree if it had only been left to grow a few more years. That doesn’t mean it isn’t charitable to take it home, but those who killed it in its infancy were monsters. But I guess you can’t have the full story of Baby Jesus without Herod…

Nate has almost as tender a heart as Louie. What a delightful comic!

“I never thought it WAS such a bad little tree…”
