Yeah, in Uncle Al’s universe the trade should have been for a disgraced ex-Marine that was given a BCD.

I was thinking Uncle Al was one of those griping about Biden not doing anything to get Griner freed, but after going back through the archives of some fun house mirror reflection of a meth-addled conspiracy theorist with some artistic talent, didn’t find anything.

And a black, trans, basketball player, too, is your insinuation no doubt.

And yet, like many complainers, you’re too ignorant to understand that their are two sides to the negotiation. You assume that Putin was just dying to accept whatever offer the US put on the table. Putin held the cards. We traded what we had to trade and what he would accept.

You have no idea if the US offered the arms dealer in exchange for Wheldon. They could have offered the trade any time between 2018 and Jan 2021 when Trump was POTUS and again after Biden took over.

Even Wheldon’s family said, there’s been more effort on the part of the Biden administration to free him. Putin is the one that decides in this scenario.

What does “trust” have to do with the trade? She’s home, they clearly followed through on their end of the deal. The Biden critics should heed the response of the Whelan family. An American is home. Period.

I can’t figure out the GOP attitude towards Russia. Trump was Putin’s buddy and wouldn’t let anyone except a translator be present when they had talks. He invited Russians into his office and openly shared classified information with them. Members of the GOP want to abandon Ukraine to Russia. Trump never tried to get Americans out of Russian prison. Now some in the GOP have a hissy fit about getting an American out of a horrible situation in Russia. Maybe because they still love Russia more than their own country?

It was actually a pretty good trade: one used arms dealer for a pretty and well liked US citizen. And the arms trader, though a real bad dude several years ago when his sentence began, may find getting back into business more difficult as time has changed much.

Mr. Whelan’s family has blasted FPOTUS for ignoring his case while he was in office and then politicizing. the case after Ms. Griner’s release. Mr. Goodwyn has drunken deeply of the MAGAGAGAGAt koolaid.

Al knows that was the only deal the Russians would make. Al also knows he was ready to attack President Biden had he decided not to make the deal.

Or trade a traitorous deserter for five of Al-Qaeda’s top field commanders. That would be a really bad trade. Wouldn’t it?

During an appearance on CNN on Saturday afternoon, veteran Democratic strategist James Carville said that the opposition to the prisoner exchange that President Joe Biden arranged with Russian President Vladimir Putin in which “Merchant of Death” arms dealer Viktor Bout was traded for Women’s National Basketball Association star Brittney Griner has significant racial undertones. Griner was arrested in Moscow in February for traveling with vape cartridges that allegedly contained cannabis, which is illegal in Russia. She was tried, convicted, and sentenced to nine years in prison before being transferred to a penal colony. Following months of negotiations, on December 8th, Biden and Putin agreed on swapping Griner for Bout.

Actually traded 6 remaining years of said arms dealer’s incarceration for basketball player. Better to have waited?

On the other hand, Trump brought back an American student in a fatal coma then rewarded the North Korean dictator with a love affair. Sweet.

It was this deal or no deal. A professional basketball player being held political prisoner for 8 months for an arms dealer that the USA has held for over 12 years. Not a sweet deal, but not a bad deal. More importantly it was the only deal. Paul Whelan’s family accepts this, as they understand it’s better to have an American home safe, than both still held in Russia.

More over, Orange Traitor did absolutely nothing to bring Paul home for two years, so the Republicans know where they can stuff their fake outrage about this trade.

They didn’t. They traded an arms dealer who’d been in prison for a decade for an American.
