An hour later, Marmaduke is seen in the living room with a green hand in his mouth.

Yup, when the girls were little they thought there were monsters under the beds. We told them that the cats and dogs (2 of each in those days, a pair of Siameses and a pair of German Shepherds) made sure there were no monsters anywhere in the house.

Looks like a Mogwai who was fed after midnight.
