I retired from teaching 17 years ago, and I still have dreams where this exact scenario is happening to me. (Except that I had no rule against gum chewing, just a rule about disposing of it properly.)

My policy on gum chewing worked pretty well: keep your mouth closed and throw it away, not under the desk.

When I left the Army in 1968 I was just so thankful for the community colleges in California. Anything so I’d never have to pick up a gun again.
