The equivalent of the pro bowl down under in Rugby League is the state of origin. Held each year between Queensland and New South Wales… It’s a representative series that puts players who can be teammates for most of the year on opposite sides… And it’s definitely not a game of tag football. It’s taken as being the highest level of the sport. It’s something unique
“Not all, but a couple, maybe”, and therein lies the problem, when this criminally inclined, drug addicted, barely literate trash is held up as “heroes” and “role models”, only reinforces the image that these buffoons are above the law, and worthy of respect.NEVER in my life have I ever felt the need to ‘worship’ one of, or teams of these clowns, just as I have never felt the ‘need’ to watch ‘men’ wearing silk pantaloons, chasing each other around, playing grabass, with other ‘men’ wearing silken pantaloons. It was once said that “religion was opiate of the masses”, but reality has shown us that it is ‘sports’, specifically kneeling ball, that the public uses to avoid the problems of living in the real world. (Why does one think that beer commercials feature so prominently in the sponsorship of these GAMES?
Because I’m an old and cynical curmudgeon, I prefer to call professional athletes either “sports actors” or “sports entertainers.”
True, they are gifted physically and work hard to sharpen their skills, but I don’t admire their accomplishments. I reserve that for those who are aged and/or physically challenged (arthritis, handicapped, etc.) but are still walking around a track as well as they can despite the pain or are at my local Y’s fitness facility even though everything is extraordinarily hard for them to do.
They are the true superheroes.
(Full disclosure: My younger brother was severely physically handicapped. He could walk – with considerable difficulty – but that was all. He never complained, and he never relied on anyone to do something for him that he could do for himself. He could have lived with taxpayer support and never worked a day in his life, but he always had a job and took great pride in being a productive member of society. He’s the real superhero in my life, and may he eternally rest in peace.)
The players don’t care about their own safety, they are in it for the cash. There will be far less cash in flag football. We the fans are just echos of those that cheered the Gladiators at the height of the Roman empire.
When a individual spouts the words, “the most important thing is the safety of the players”, you know your standing near someone who is just mouthing words to make themselves feel self-righteous. They rarely actually care about the people they are supposedly protecting.
At the end of the day, if the players want to play, and the owners will pay them, why is it anybody else’s business? If people don’t like it, don’t watch, don’t go to games, and don’t buy merch. Obviously millions of people do buy tickets and merch and are willing to patronize the game. As for the do-gooders, just shut up and go away
Fewer people watched the 2022 Pro Bowl than the 2021 MLB All-Star Game, and the 6.69 million mark was down dramatically from the 12.2 million who watched the Pro Bowl just nine years earlier in 2013. The 2022 Pro Bowl ultimately had the smallest audience of any Pro Bowl since 2006. I say they should just cancel it.

Would lose the inside running game but the passing game would be good, then no pads and helmets either.

I am sure Brady has a portrait of himself as a battered and wrinkled old man, somewhere in his attic ….

I wouldn’t call athletes, “superheroes". I’d call them, “athletes.”

What if professional sports are the current version of the Roman circus, intended to anesthetize the general public?

Here’s an idea: mandate that players play offense and defense.
You’re less likely to do it if it’s going to be done back to you.
