History is not there for people to erase they cant hide the history of slavery and how race factored into everything in how our country was built and how it functions to this day.

I read where the NCAA is upset about college athletes getting paid. I imagine members of the NCAA get paid 6 figures and don’t object.

The 1860 project tells the accurate picture. How Blacks in Africa were recruited by head hunters for employment opportunites in the U.S. How they were loaded onto cruise ships for the voyage across the Atlantic. How, once the Blacks arrived, employers eagerly bid against each other for their services. How the employers offered their new employees long term deals with benefits including food, housing, clothing … /s

Could we just relabel Florida “1984” and offer emigration bonuses to people who are trying to learn from history?

History is history and you can’t change it today. I don’t understand all this trying to change it or sugar coat it. We are supposed to learn from history so we don’t repeat the bad stuff. It is what it is! Kids are smarter and can handle truth better than they are given credit for….. as this kid proves.

This comic brings to mind some historical trivia. While we all know the Confederate states had slavery at the time of the Civil War and (hopefully) we are aware of the four border states (MD, DE, KY, MO) in the Union which still permitted slavery, did you know New Jersey also had a handful of slaves during that time? While New Jersey had banned the slave trade in the early 19th Century, the state “grandfathered in” ownership of existing slaves and there were still about 20 of them around during the 1860s. New Jersey got around the slavery issue by reclassifying them as “special apprentices” rather than slaves.

Geography lessons in Florida explain why my Floridian in-laws are sure that illegal immigrants from Mexico are flooding over Mexico’s border with Florida…
