Fun fact: There is no “the” in Smokey Bear’s name.

“Only YOU can prevent Forest Fires” or “Wild Fires”!

It’s amazing how iconic Smokey is. Generations of Americans, many who have never even been in a forest know all about preventing forest fires. At least it is practical for millions of others, unlike a lot of childhood lessons. I’m starting to think knowing what to do if I end up in quicksand is a skill I’ll never put to use.

Smokey, tell them to be VERY careful now because we have allowed so much of the wrong forest growth, that now just the smallest fire can destroy millions of acres and kill humans and wildlife. We need you Smokey!
