Those were the days. You’d ask your teacher how to spell something and they’d tell you to look it up in the dictionary. And then you’d ask – How can I look it up if I don’t know how to spell it? And they’d say – sound it out. So you’d sound it out and still couldn’t find it because English words aren’t spelled the way they sound thanks to the Belgium printers who got paid by the letter!?
Brutus did not want to admit to his son that he can’t spell the word. Unfortunately, he made himself look worse in the process. I love Wilberforce’s look. If there was a thought balloon it might say “I now realize how shallow my gene pool is.” Or “My family tree has its share of nuts.” Although he’s probably already figured both of those out!
If you pronounce a word correctly you have a better chance of being able to find it in a dictionary. These days with computers, it’s much easier to look up words. Auto correct is very helpful but can give some disastrous results if proofreading isn’t careful. With Brutus and Wilberforce, they maybe hope Gladys can spell. Maybe Uncle Ted would be more helpful with homework. How many people still have a real dictionary in their homes any more?
Well. at least he didn’t say google it. However, had he, he would have found that Noah Webster wrote the Dictionary. Danial Webster had a very impressive resume having been a Great Statesman, Congressman, Attorney and debater with also having had a great trial against the Devil. However, among his many accomplishments is not being the author of a dictionary….
Brutus is right again, thought Wilberforce, Noah Webster built an arc of words to be saved and proliferated with two of each word in a set, one set for the second edition…
The narrator comments: Brutus your copy of Daniel Websters dictionary really gotta be old, Daniel’s version never got off the ground in 1856, only a few printings, and that’s the devil of it, like Edison beat Tesla, Noah beat Daniel, I think…
Wilberforce thought, I forgot to tell Brutus what historical topic I am suppose to write about, I think that would have been helpful to Brutus so he could help me better…

One can ask a verbal spelling question to : Siri, Alexa, and the google person ETC. In this manner one only needs to know correct pronunciation.
