Love discovering these old things. The “whaleback” boats were invented to minimize the wind on the boats that carried huge amounts of cargo around the great lakes. I never even heard of them! I do know that there are lots of sunken ships in the great lakes that have never been found, due to the rough seas. They call them lakes, but basically they are seas, with all the currents and dangers of crossing the Atlantic or Pacific.
I rarely find something weak in the artist’s work but panel #9 with the rainbow is something I find to be quite weak on McCay’s part; while his treatments given to the panels with waterfalls are outstanding!
