At first, I thought Rodney was asking his horse how he could down of fifth of some unspecified bottle of booze. Maybe that was Rodney “secret weapon” that he used on his nag to retreat at warp speed.

I think that there was a big time difference between the first two panels. Rodney seems to have placed a bet on the horse and lost between them.
