I grew up seeing most of his films. He was good when properly directed and with a decent script, but some directors made too much of his looks. They kind of overdid the closeups and included really hammy, poorly written love scenes, which detracted from his skills as an actor. Happened of lots of actors.

I remember seeing ‘Samson and Delilah’ at the drive-in movie theater with my family. We four kids sat on a blanket in the back of the station wagon. My mother cooked popcorn ahead of time and we drank Kool-Aid.

In the early 90’s I would see him every day(dressed always in black) at the Rancho Santa Fe (San Diego) Golf Club. He would play 2 rounds a day. Every one knew him——and he couldn’t have been nicer!

For some reason, I always get Victor Mature and Tyrone Power mixed up.
