I’m surprised that Baldo didn’t learn Spanish before English. “Arroz con pollo” is “rice with chicken.” I used to work in Pennsylvania’s state owned/operated liquor stores. My one boss was a Puerto Rican woman. She had a guy visit her one night with his 3yo boy, who couldn’t speak a word of English. His dad said that the kid would learn English when he got to school!
A woman I know (one parent Mexican, one parent Portuguese) grew up in a home where only English was spoken. I grew up with a lot of kids with parents that spoke Spanish but wanted their children to only speak English—the parents did not speak Spanish to them.

Ok, I’ll bite. What’s “con poyo”? And is he eating a rose? I could probably tell you in French but Spanish was not taught in Canada.

A rare peek at Baldo’s late mother in the first panel?

Cute. Reminiscent of “Family Circus”.

Don’t worry about Baldo teaching lil’ sis to play in the mud, Papi. It’ll all come off in the bath.

As long as he is as muddy as she, I don’t see any problem with #3
