There has been rampant speculation that all sports playoffs series go the distance for a reason and one reason only. Money…… League money; Team money; Player money; Broadcast money; Sponsor money. When a series goes to 7 games as opposed to 4, they all make almost 50% more. When was the last (any sport) playoff series that was decided in 4 games. Think about it.
I have never been a really big fan of professional basketball, preferring college ball – especially women’s college basketball, if I watch any games at all. I feel about NBA basketball the same way some Americans feel about football ( soccer ) – Booooring!
Popularity of the game leads to expansion of the league/s. Money to be made from televised playoffs increases. Leagues expand playoffs to include 20 out of 30 teams for NBA, 16 out of 32 for NHL, 14 out of 32 for NFL, 12 out of 30 for MLB, and 6 out of 9 for the CFL. The regular season amounts to a tournament to determine playoff seeding. Many “fans” don’t watch the playoffs if their team doesn’t make it, some tune out after their team loses out and a few will only tune in for the final round of the playoffs. I find myself in the group that will watch my team as far as it will go. But the TV networks have to sell the chips, beer and trucks to pay the leagues for the broadcast “privileges.”

If the voting in AZ holds up, you may soon have hockey in the way, too.

Shut up and enjoy the game tonight. I hope the Celts pick up on the Heat where they left off clobbering the Sixers.

I’ll start watching the nba again when they resume calling traveling and stop allowing aggravated assault under the basket.

Cornhole and Pickleball sounds like a rather obscene game for a swingers’ party.
