I smoked a pipe for around 5 years, and never thought they smelled foul. Maybe because I cleaned them out regularly. In the end, all that cleaning forced me to stop smoking them.
Gaylord is only partially correct, IMO. Pipes are not so foul smelling as other forms of tobacco usage (cigars especially, but also cigarettes and even chewing/spitting tobacco), and can be quite aromatic, as smoking goes.
In the Way Back When, as a young man and before the advent of anti-smoking campaigns and laws, I tried cigarettes; I tried pipe-smoking for a while; and I even took an occasional cigar. This was mainly in my college years, and thankfully none became a long-lasting habit….
Many years ago, the actor Edward G. Robinson, created his own pipe tobacco. I stopped at a pipe shop out of curiosity. It had a wonderful aroma, and seemed very moist.

A big smile for Broomie :-D
Love how her eyes are drawn in the third panel- puts a mischievous smile on her face without using the mouth-part.

Question: does the sound of Broomies pipe causes misophonia too?

Remember when Broomie regularly smoked cheap cigars?

Cigars are the absolute worst; the zenith of obnoxiousness.

Why in the world does GoComics block Gaylord, but not Gay-lord, Gay!ord, or Gay, for Heaven’s sake?

She once smoked cigars. A pipe would be an improvement.

Amazing the silly algorithm wouldn’t let me use the buzzard name from the strip.

This is probably the closest Broomie will get to a bar of soap this month.

PSA: Do NOT inhale a bubble pipe. It will make you choke. Been there, done that.
